Librarian, Williston College

Mrs. Bertha Boykin Todd (b. 1929) is an educator and community leader. She came to Williston Industrial High School in 1952 as the school's first librarian, having just completed her master's degree in library science. The high school was also the home of Williston College, which served local Black students and returning veterans, operating as an extension unit of Fayetteville State Teachers College until 1955. Williston College then became a unit of Wilmington College. Wilmington College desegregated in 1962, and Williston College officially closed two years later. Mrs. Todd became a librarian and then an administrator at Hoggard High School following the Williston's closure in 1968.
