When Wilmington College first opened in 1947, they utilized classrooms and the library at New Hanover High School, with a librarian providing service to students. Continuous growth signified the move to their own space, the empty Isaac Bear School building, which established the institution’s first library in 1950. In these early years, the library was able to run using a single librarian.
In 1962, after expanding for future growth, they built a larger library adding an additional librarian to the staff. Due to the increase in student usage in the previous academic year, the library increased the staff by one to keep up with the demands.
The following organizational charts begins in 1970 with fifteen staff. Fifty-four years later the library has sixty-two staff members.
